Don Haynes – Master Craftsman

The first step in the journey from a fallen aspen tree to a custom frame surrounding your beautiful painting, photograph, or mirror literally is in
the high country aspen groves in the magnificent San Juan mountains of southwestern Colorado. Trekking through forests searching for those perfect logs with my wife, Sally, and our oh-so-helpful puppy, Savannah, I look for character, color and appropriate sizes to create a one-of-a-kind aspen frame to compliment your choice of art or mirror.

The entire procedure producing your frame then includes peeling the bark,
splitting the log to use both halves to create a "bookend" effect, jointing
to get the first straight line (those darned logs aren't ever straight),
dado-ing in two dimensions, mitering to your measurements, biscuit jointing
for strength, grinding and sanding those "wild" corners, applying numerous
coats of grain enhancers, three coats of acrylic finish, hand sanding
between each coat, and a final check by "the boss" – guess who?

My love of woodworking and creativity is expressed in every frame. No mass
production here, just individual designs especially for you.

What could be better than making sawdust – with an occasional glass of wine
for inspiration?

Enjoy your frame,

Don Haynes
